Halle Berry Reveals the “Hard Work” Behind Her Anti-Aging Secrets

Halle Berry’s commitment to her health is more than strictly business.
In fact, the 58-year-old is often praised for her age-defying looks and her ability to do physically taxing roles, but she says it doesn’t come naturally.
“It’s hard work and you have to work at it. It’s a lifestyle,” Halle told E! News' Will Marfuggi in an exclusive interview. “It’s a choice you make.” (For more with Halle, tune into E! News tonight Aug. 14 at 11 p.m.)
In fact, one of her medical struggles might have contributed to her anti-aging success.
“I think being diagnosed with diabetes when I was 19 years old has kept me away from the number one aging substance which is sugar,” Halle continued. “I think it’s managing to get enough rest, prioritizing your sleep and your health and your wellbeing is important. And it’s hard to do that sometimes.”
In line with her sleep prioritization, Halle noted that she did not hit up the gym with Mark Wahlberg, her costar in the upcoming film, The Union.
“Oh hell no!” she quipped of Mark’s infamously early workout time. “Mama does not work out at 3 a.m. No, I work out, but at a more decent hour.”
The longtime pals’ upcoming action film, which hits Netflix Aug. 16, features Mark and Halle as Mike and Roxanne, former high school sweethearts who reconnect when Roxanne recruits Mike, a construction worker, for a high-stakes intelligence mission.
“It was fun. I think many of us fantasize about that one that got away or what if I would have stayed with my high school sweetheart, what would my life be like?” the Oscar winner said of the project. “Or if you ran into them again, would you still have anything in common? I know I have over the years.”
As for tackling the action project later in life, Halle shared she never anticipated acting for this long.
“I never thought I’d be doing this as a career, and then at this age and stage still being able to work at the level that I work on,” the mother of two—who shares daughter Nahla Aubry, 16, with ex Gabriel Aubry, and son Maceo-Robert Martinez, 10, with ex Olivier Martinez—admitted. “But I came along at the right time when women are having longevity. There was a time when you were 40, you were kind of done. So it’s so nice to be a part of Hollywood now.”
The Union hits Netflix Friday, Aug. 16.
